Steve Mitchell ’92 was an all-region and 2-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection in baseball who capped his Ohio Wesleyan career by receiving NCAC Pitcher of the Year honors. He was 3-3 with a 3.58 earned run average as a sophomore, ranking ninth in the NCAC in ERA that year. He emerged as a 2-way threat as a junior, receiving second-team All-NCAC honors both as a pitcher and a designated hitter. He batted .287 and led the Bishops with 10 HR and 46 RBI, ranking third and fifth respectively in the NCAC. On the mound, he compiled a 5-4 record, sharing the team lead in wins, and ranking fifth in the NCAC in strikeouts. His senior year, he was named NCAC Pitcher of the Year. He batted .326 with 11 HR and 43 RBI, ranking second in the NCAC in home runs. He tied the OWU single-game record with 3 home runs against Wooster that season. On the mound, he was an inning eater who pitched 8 straight complete games during one stretch. He finished 5-4 with a 3.38 ERA, ranking third in the NCAC in ERA and strikeouts. He finished his career with 21 home runs, tying for third place on the Bishop career list.
