Mike Fowler ’00 was a 2-time All-America selection as a football safety who tied the Ohio Wesleyan career tackles record. As a freshman, he ranked seventh on the team with 52 tackles. As a sophomore, he improved to second on the team with 101 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, and 7 pass breakups. He was an honorable mention All-North Coast Athletic Conference pick that year. He led the team in tackles as a junior, compiling a school-record 166 stops. His 87 solos ranked third on the OWU season list, while his 79 assists was the second-highest season total. He was a first-team All-NCAC selection and a third-team All-America pick on the Hewlett-Packard team. His senior year, he led the Bishops with 158 tackles, the second-highest season total in the OWU record books. His 15 solo tackles against Wooster that year tied for third on the Bishop single-game list. His total of 82 solos was fifth on the Bishop season list, while his 76 assists ranked fourth on the season list. He led the team with 9 pass breakups and added 2 sacks and 2 interceptions. He repeated as a first-team All-NCAC selection, and was a first-team All-America choice on the Hewlett-Packard team, a second-team pick by the Football Gazette, and a third-team choice by the Associated Press. His career total of 250 solo stops was second all-time, while he set the OWU career record with 227 assists. His career total of 477 tackles tied the Bishop record.
