Jessica Viertlboeck ’01 was a 4-time All-NCAC selection in women’s basketball. Her freshman year, she ranked eighth in the NCAC in scoring (14.2 pts/game). She scored 20 points in an NCAC tournament semifinal against Wittenberg (going 5-for-5 from 3-point range to tie a school record), and was named to the all-tournament team. She was an honorable mention All-NCAC pick. Her sophomore year, she again ranked eighth in the NCAC in scoring (13.8 pts/game) and led the league in free throw percentage (.824). She scored 27 points in the NCAC tournament championship game and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAC tournament. She was a second-team all-conference pick as Ohio Wesleyan was 21-7, shared the NCAC title, won the NCAC tournament, and advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament. As a junior, she ranked fourth in the NCAC in scoring (14.5 pts/game) and led the league in 3-point field goal percentage (.431). She tied her career best with 11 rebounds in an NCAC tournament win over Wooster, scored 27 points in the NCAC tournament semifinal against Denison, and went 10-for-10 from the line in the NCAC tournament championship against Kenyon. Ohio Wesleyan went 23-3, won the NCAC title with a 14-2 mark, but lost in the NCAC tournament final and did not receive an NCAA bid. She was a first-team All-NCAC pick that year. Her senior year, she led the league in scoring (18.0 pts/game). She opened the NCAC tournament with 21 points vs. Wooster, and added 23 points in a semifinal vs. Wittenberg (going 7-for-8 from the field, 7-for-7 from the line). In the tournament championship game, she sparked a comeback from an 8-point deficit with less than 2 minutes to play to send the game into overtime, then finished with 30 points in win over Earlham and was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. In the NCAA tournament, she led the team with 21 points and 10 rebounds, including 8 points in a late 12-0 run at Lake Forest; led the team with 23 points at Hope; scored a team-high 19 points vs. Centre; and led the Bishops with 28 points, including a pair of free throws with :20 left, at Baldwin-Wallace. She repeated as a first-team All-NCAC selection. Her career totals and their ranking on all-time OWU list as of 2001: 1655 points (2nd), .347 3-point field goal percentage (1st), 463 free throws (1st), .798 free throw percentage (1st), 583 rebounds (8th), 250 assists (5th). During her 4 years, the Bishops were 85-28 (.752) with 2 NCAA playoff appearances and 3 conference championships. She also lettered once in softball as the Bishops’ starting shortstop in the team’s first season after its reinstatement, leading the team with .382 batting average and sharing the team lead with 1 home run and 9 RBI.
