Gibson Diehl ’39 was an outstanding performer in track and field. His freshman year, he turned in excellent times and won all 4 of his events on multiple occasions while on the freshman squad. In 1937, Diehl joined the varsity squad and earned 21 first-places and set an Ohio Wesleyan record of 23-3¾ in the broad jump. During the 1938 season, he placed first 23 times and bettered his broad jump record to 23-4½. During Diehl’s final season, he placed first in 24 events. He finished his career with a come-from-behind first-place finish in the 120-yard high hurdles, and a second in the broad jump at the Buckeye Conference meet.
