Akeya Terrell ’04 was 2-time All-American in the 400-meter dash as well as a standout defender in soccer. In track her freshman year, she was third in the 400-meter dash and helped the 1600-meter relay team to a third-place finish indoors, then was second in the 400 and helped the 1600-meter relay team win the NCAC title in a league-record 3:57.98 outdoors. As a sophomore, she finished second in the 400 in a provisional qualifying and school-record time of :59.09 indoors, then won the 400 in a provisional time of :57.33 outdoors. Her junior year, she broke the OWU indoor 400 record 3 times, running a :57.66 in the preliminaries on the way to an NCAC title. She also finished third in the 200 and helped the 800 and 1600 relay teams to all-conference honors. She qualified for the NCAA Division III championship in the 400 but finished fourth in her heat. Outdoors, she broke the school record in the 400 twice, clocking a :55.75 at Baldwin Wallace. She won the 400 and was fourth in the 200 at the NCAC meet, and at the NCAA championship, she finished fourth in her heat of the 400. As a senior, she was named Sprinter of the Meet at the NCAC indoor championship, winning the 400 (:58.28) and long jump, finishing second in the 200 and fifth in the 55, and helping the 1600 relay team win the NCAC title. At the NCAA Division III meet, she finished seventh in the 400 (:58.45) to win All-America honors. Outdoors that season, she won the 400 and finished second in the 200 at the NCAC meet, also helping the 1600 relay team to a league title. At the NCAA Division III meet, she finished seventh in the 400 (:56.94) to win All-America honors. During her career, she won 6 NCAC individual titles (including her last 5 400-meter dash crowns) and was a 15-time All-NCAC honoree, and was a member of 3 NCAC champion and 8 All-NCAC relay teams. She also won 4 letters as a defender during the most prolific 4-year period in Ohio Wesleyan women’s soccer history. She started 8 games as a freshman, helping Ohio Wesleyan share the NCAC championship. As a sophomore, she started 21 of 22 games, helping Ohio Wesleyan allow only 10 goals during the season on the way to a 22-1 record, an NCAC title and the NCAA Division III championship. She was named Most Outstanding Player – Defense of the national championship and semifinals, and was a second-team All-NCAC, second-team All-Ohio, and third-team all-region selection. She missed the first half of her junior year with a knee injury, but came back to play in the last 10 games as Ohio Wesleyan won its second consecutive NCAC and NCAA Division III championships. As a senior, she was a second-team All-NCAC pick. During her 4 years, Ohio Wesleyan was 79-7-1 (.914) with 2 national championships, 3 quarterfinal appearances, and 3 conference championships.
