Fred Schroeder ’38 earned 3 letters in football and 2 in baseball. Recognized by many football coaches as one of the best ends in Ohio during his sophomore year, Schroeder was named to the AP All-Buckeye Conference second team and missed the UP All-Buckeye first team selection by just one vote. As a junior, Schroeder was named to the AP’s All-Buckeye first team and received honorable mention in the Collyer’s Little All-America poll of 1936. During his senior year, he received an AP All-Buckeye Conference honorable mention citation and was awarded the Bun Trophy for being selected by his teammates as the team’s Most Valuable Player. Schroeder was also an outstanding baseball competitor as a consistent lead-off hitter as well as a sparkler on defense in right field.
