Peter Earle ’72 was the 1969 and 1971 Ohio Athletic Conference champion at 118 pounds. He also was conference runner-up in 1970 and finished third in 1972. Earle was the Battling Bishops’ Most Valuable Player in 1971, leading the squad to a 13-0 dual-meet mark. He was the first Ohio Wesleyan wrestler ever to compete in the NCAA championships. Among his other honors were 2 titles in the Great Lakes Colleges Association tournament, the 1970 GLCA Outstanding Wrestler Award, and a 1970 listing in “Outstanding College Athletes of America.” He compiled a 49-5 career record.
