Dan Marchetti ’00 was an All-America selection as a utility player in baseball. A shortstop and a pitcher, he lettered as a freshman, batting .667 as a reserve infielder and going 1-0 with 1 save on the mound. He won the shortstop spot as a sophomore, batting .416 (fifth in the North Coast Athletic Conference) with 12 home runs and a league-leading 59 RBI while going 5-2 with a 4.35 earned run average and a save as a pitcher. He was named to both All-NCAC and all-regional tournament teams, and was a second-team All-NCAC pick both at shortstop and pitcher as well as a second-team all-region choice at shortstop. His junior year, he batted a team-leading .360 with 10 home runs and 48 RBI and went 4-3 with a 3.00 earned run average (fifth in NCAC) and 2 saves. He was named to both All-NCAC and all-regional tournament teams, and was a first-team All-NCAC selection at shortstop and a second-team all-region choice both as a shortstop and a pitcher. As a senior, he batted .397 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI, scored a school-record 65 runs, and ranked second in the league in doubles and third in triples. On the mound, he went 8-3 with a 2.90 ERA and 3 saves, ranking second in the NCAC in saves and tying for third in wins. He was named the NCAC tournament MVP and to the regional tournament team. He was a first-team All-NCAC pick at shortstop, a first-team all-region pick at both shortstop and pitcher, and a first-team All-America pick. His career .396 batting average ranked sixth on the Bishop list, while his totals of 180 runs, 33 home runs, 156 RBI and a .711 slugging percentage all ranked second and his 352 total bases was third. He had a 18-8 career record as a pitcher, with his 46 relief appearances setting an OWU record while his ERA of 3.70 ranked 10th. During his 4 years, the Bishops were 141-50-2, with 2 regional runner-up finishes.
