Bill Poist ’61 was an outstanding tennis player. By the end of his first season, he had moved from fourth singles to second singles, going 16-0 and winning the Ohio Athletic Conference second singles crown. Poist returned to tennis in the 1960 season to play first singles, posting a 12-3 record, and was undefeated in the conference. That year, he also played doubles with Dick Gordon and they went undefeated, with the pair going on to win the Midwest Regional doubles championship. His senior year, Poist and Gordon went 15-2 overall, 10-0 in the conference. In singles play, Poist’s overall record was 16-2 and he was 8-1 in the conference. During his three years at Ohio Wesleyan, Poist was 47-5 in singles play, 26-1 in the OC, and 44-3 in doubles play, 25-0 in the OC.
