Sarah Downs ’06 was a North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year selection who also was Ohio Wesleyan’s first Academic All-America® pick in softball. As a sophomore, she batted .339 and drove in 7 runs and helped Ohio Wesleyan advance to the championship game of the NCAC tournament. Her junior year, she batted .369, hit 2 home runs and drove in 18 runs, and was a first-team All-NCAC selection. Ohio Wesleyan finished 22-14, won the NCAC championship with an 11-3 record, and finished as runner-up in the NCAC tournament. As a senior, she batted a team-best .403 (then second all-time at OWU), led the NCAC with 9 HR (OWU record), and led the team and ranked second in the NCAC with 43 RBI (also an OWU record). She also set OWU records with 56 hits, 97 total bases, and a .698 slugging percentage. She was a first-team all-conference pick and was named NCAC Player of the Year, and went on to first-team all-region and second-team Academic All-America® honors. Ohio Wesleyan was 23-19, including an 8-6 mark in NCAC play, and advanced to the championship game of the NCAC tournament. She set OWU career records with 11 home runs and a slugging percentage of .575. Her career batting average of .365 was second all-time, her on-base percentage of .433 was third all-time, and her 115 hits and 181 total bases each ranked fourth all-time. During her 4 years, Ohio Wesleyan was 93-70 (.571), including 38-18 (.679) in the NCAC, won 2 NCAC championships, and reached the NCAC tournament all 4 years, finishing as runner-up 3 times.
