A standout wrestler, Dick Bird ’69 placed in the top 4 at the Ohio Athletic Conference championship meet 3 times. He wrestled at 137 pounds as a freshman, compiling a 12-4-1 record with 4 pins and placing fourth at the OAC meet. As a sophomore, he moved up one weight class and had a 14-2-1 record with 3 pins and placed third at the OAC meet. He wrestled at 145 pounds again as a junior and went 13-4-1 with 4 pins, finished as the OAC runner-up, and was named team captain and Most Valuable Player. As a senior, he wrestled most matches at 152, going 6-2 with 2 pins, but lost in the semifinals of the OAC championship and consolation brackets.
