Vanessa Jones ’85 was a 4-year letterwinner in both cross country and track & field. She helped the cross country team finish ninth at the NCAA Division III championship meet as a freshman. As a senior, she won the North Coast Athletic Conference meet, becoming the NCAC’s first champion of any kind. She went on to win the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional meet and finish 51st at the NCAA Division III championship meet that year. Indoors, she set the school record in the 2-mile run as a freshman and had lowered that by more than 20 seconds by her junior year. She won at least one distance event at the major outdoor meet of each of her 4 years, including the 10,000-meter run at the first-ever NCAC championship meet her senior year.
