Shannon West ’88 was one of Ohio Wesleyan’s most talented and versatile athletes. As a senior, she placed second in the 300- and 600-yard events and third in the long jump at the NCAC indoor meet, then placed in the 100, 200, long jump, and triple jump outdoors. Her junior year, she was named Most Valuable Runner of the NCAC indoor meet after winning the 60-, 300-, and 440-yard dashes — setting NCAC records in the latter 2 events — as well as adding a second in the long jump and running on the second-place 880-yard relay team. Outdoors, she set an NCAC record in the 400-meter dash, added a second in the long jump, and ran on a pair of All-NCAC relay teams. As a sophomore, she set a school record in the 600-yard run and was league runner-up in the 300-yard dash indoors, then won All-NCAC honors in the 100, 200, and 400 and 1600 relay teams outdoors. Her freshman year, she placed in the 60- and 440-yard dashes and the long jump indoors, and ran on a pair of All-NCAC relay teams outdoors. She lettered in soccer as a sophomore, but switched to field hockey as a junior and went on to tie for the team lead in scoring with 10 goals. She was a first-team All-NCAC pick as a midfielder her senior year, helping the team win a school-record 16 games and its first NCAC championship, and make its first-ever NCAA Division III playoff appearance.
