Philip Hoffman ’02 was a 2-time All-American in men’s soccer who won All-America honors both as a defender and a midfielder. He won second-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference, second-team All-Ohio, and third-team all-region honors as a freshman after helping Ohio Wesleyan win the NCAA Division III championship. As a sophomore, he moved to first-team All-NCAC and All-Ohio honors and second-team all-region status. He was named the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year as a junior but contributed more on the offensive end as well, collecting 2 goals and 5 assists. He was a first-team All-NCAC, All-Ohio, and all-region pick and collected second-team All-America laurels. As a senior, he moved to midfield and went on to take NCAC Offensive Player of the Year honors after ranking second on the team in scoring with 9 goals and 7 assists. He was named Most Valuable Player of the NCAC tournament, and was a first-team All-NCAC, All-Ohio, and all-region choice and a third-team All-America pick. During his 4 years, Ohio Wesleyan was 78-16-2 (.823) with 4 conference championships, a national championship, 2 national semifinal appearances, and 3 national quarterfinal appearances.
