John “Red” Halliday ’29 was one of OWU’s best all-around athletes. Halliday earned 9 letters and 3 numerals in football, basketball and track. He was an all-conference selection twice each in football as a halfback and basketball as a guard. In the spring, he competed for the track team, where he was noted for assaults upon the Edwards Field record in the broad jump.
