Jack McKinnie ’54 was a two-year starter at forward for the Bishop men’s basketball team. He ranked second on the team with 12.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game as a senior. The team captain, he scored the tying basket to send a game at Hofstra into overtime. He won a starting forward spot as a junior and went on to rank third on the team in scoring (13.0/game) and second in rebounding (9.8/game). He scored a career-high 29 points in a win over Otterbein that year. Ohio Wesleyan’s 15-7 record that season was the best since 1936-37 (17 seasons) and included a 12-4 mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference, good for second place. He recorded career totals of 759 points and 621 rebounds. Also a two-time letterman in track, he was part of a five-way tie for third place in the high jump in the OAC championship meet his junior year. As a senior, he tied for fifth place in the high jump at the OAC indoor championship meet, helping OWU win the conference title. Outdoors, he placed in both the high jump and the 120-yard high hurdles with regularity and finished third in the hurdles at the OAC championship meet, helping the Bishops win the OAC title.
