Dick Gordin ’52 served as the Bishops’ golf coach for 39 years, the longest tenure of any coach in any sport in Ohio Wesleyan history. He guided 22 of his last 25 teams to the NCAA Division III or College Division tournaments, bringing home 6 top-5 finishes during his last 8 years. Ohio Wesleyan won a total of 12 league titles under Gordin during 5 different decades. His teams won 7 Ohio Athletic Conference championships and placed third or better in the OAC tournament 21 times. Ohio Wesleyan won 5 of the last 7 North Coast Athletic Conference championships under Gordin, earning him NCAC Coach of the Year honors each time. He was named NCAA Division III Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1993. Gordin coached 34 All-America golfers during his last 23 years. He served as Ohio Wesleyan’s athletic director from 1977-85 and was soccer coach in 1954-55 and swimming coach from 1954-79, coaching 5 All-Americans in swimming and 1 in soccer.
